Reflective Journal - Lesson 2

The second GRACE lesson was a blast! Everyone was focused on the subject and tasks to be completed.

This week's GRACE lesson got off with a usual beginning with the Perfectionists getting to their seats and started the meeting. This week's objective was to brainstorm for ideas for the topic we were going to do for GRACE ( Yikes! The topic we were going to do for months, unless we did it badly and had to restart, of course :) )

Fortunately, Ms Lim, our supervising teacher was there in our "time of need"! She shared some interesting suggestions with the Perfectionists and the Unstoppable Intelligences, which she mentioned that no other Marists had tried before. Oh no! We're like the "guinea pigs"! Ms Lim also mentioned to us that the previous IPW (newly renamed GRACE) projects only had one topic and had a narrow range to expand and generate ideas on.

Right from that moment, I knew form deep in my heart that the topic had to be innovative, enterprising - something that had a wide range of possibilities to work on. It must allow us to use our creativity in a way that appeals to others. It has to be different, something that has not been thought of before, not like those boring old repetitive ideas that come out every year. We had to improvise on the suggestions and use our own personal project experiences. We wouldn't want to get the low marks those topics were sure to get...

On the day I logged in to Blogger to post this very reflection, I was not so much much of shocked but more of amazed  and surprised at the GRACE blog's changed skin. I was surprised to see that it was not done by our Perfectionists' very own coder, Yen Wee. If you ask me, I feel that both the old and new blog skins have their positive and negative sides. The new artsy blog skin is very colorful, and demonstrates how the bold colors used in it which seem better than the old one, while the old blog skin demonstrates a kind of Simplicaity with its main white and grey colors.

Moving on to the main subject, things were not going as smoothly as all of us expected. The Perfectionists were having a minor case of "writers' block"! We completely had no idea on what topic to work on! Consequently, we spent the entire GRACE meeting time brainstorming and discussing for a topic. The negative side of this was that the discussion had to be extended till after our 35 minute GRACE meeting. It was only awhile after the meeting that we made our final decision! We would be using Ms Lim's suggestion of working with the Society for Prevention for the Cruelty to Animals(SPCA) and design our very own personalised T-Shirts in an effort to raise funds that will be given to the SPCA :D

We all know this choice made is not going to be easy to accomplish, but we will still strive very hard to achieve that 100%!
As said by Mr Kwok - Leaders do the difficult things. It is also in line with this year's school theme - Every Marist, a Leader.

The Perfectionists were pretty much left to our own devices, with the supervising teacher, Ms Lim being "tied" to the Unstoppable Intelligences. Entrusting us with the responsibility of getting the task done at the best we can do as the Perfectionists.

Every year, I will always see students, Secondary and up, running all around the place trying to get customers to buy their products. It may seem easy to do when you look at it as a passer-by, but then again, rethinking made me consider some factors involved - the calculation of the costs, the products' packaging, the skills needed to attract customers, they make it seem more difficult than before(not as easy as it seems D:) The challenge is basically the best fun in the entire GRACE project, and I'm confident that things will turn out perfect!

Lastly, I really enjoy GRACE lessons, and I hope all the Perfectionists can perfect their brainstorming skills :D
